Let’s imagine that I would offer these two options: a well-paid job in a corporate company and a poorly paid job for a charity organization. Which one would you choose? I bet that the majority would choose the first option without even thinking about the policy of the company and the impact on society. Generally, our decisions are heavily influenced by the prestige and amount of money that is at stake.
Use common sense and find purpose in what you do
Any action you take should be guided by common sense. When you don’t know if taking a job in a certain company, ask yourself if you genuinely agree with the intents and the mode of action of the company. Be critical and never just do what everybody else would do! Sometimes, following the mass is just the easiest solution, but it is not the right one.
Be always critical. Do now allows laws to precisely regulate what you can and can’t do. Laws are written by a few selected people and they are always subject to interpretation and circumstances. Laws are not always right or updated and they try to regulate things in the best knowledge of the legislator. If you think about it, new laws are created only after something bad happens and not before. With this, I don’t mean that should go around stealing, but I mean that you should not take advantage of other people in any way, even if it would be technically allowed by law.
Hence, whenever you have to make a decision, do not interrogate your law book, but interrogate yourself by asking the question: what is the best thing to do so that I do not damage not only me but also others? Let’s make our actions driven by common sense. Of course, it is more challenging to this, because we will have to exclude a set of options which would have probably been very convenient. However, being wise and fair in this world pays in the long-term always and it will ultimately give purpose to your life.
Conclusion
Remember that to have a happy life and to avoid having regrets at some point in your life, you should use common sense to dictate your choices. This will also help you find a purpose and give a concrete sense to your life!
